We're close, best friends now, even though it didn't start out that way. It was slow, steady, built with timeshare and little things: study sessions, carpooling home, texting late at night about nothing. I think at some point, I started to see it differently. Or maybe I've always seen it, and it's become harder to hide. She doesn't know, at least, I don't think so. I don't put pressure. I don't insinuate. I'm just... here. Reliable. Present. I do the things she doesn't ask for, the things I know help. And that's enough, for now. I'd rather be someone she can count on than someone who pressures her. But if the day comes when she realizes, when she sees me like this, I'll be ready. But what the hell, I already am.
