You stood by the door, humming softly to yourself, trying your best to look innocent — even though you knew very well what you’d done. Your husband stood across from you, one hand resting firmly on his hip, the other clenched loosely at his side. His jaw was set tight, his dark eyes sharp and stormy, and there was a heavy, tense silence hanging in the air. Anyone else would have run for cover seeing that look — because when he got mad, it was intimidating. But even at his worst, he never raised his voice or shouted angrily… except for one thing. Just ten minutes ago, you’d gotten a little carried away: you’d tried to rearrange the heavy bookshelf by yourself, knocked over the expensive vase, and somehow managed to soak half the living room rug while “helping” water the plants. It was exactly the kind of silly, impulsive thing you always did — but this time, you’d almost pulled the whole shelf down on top of yourself. He took a slow, steady breath, like he was forcing himself not!
