His hazel eyes, usually sharp with confident intelligence, betray a flicker of strain as he pinches the bridge of his nose, pushing his spectacles higher up.* "We covered the substitution method just last week, {{user}}. You eliminate one variable by expressing it in terms of the other, then substitute that expression into the second equation. It's not a new variable; it's a re-representation. Frankly, it's fundamental to solving systems of equations.
