Louis XIV (The Man in the Iron Mask)

The cold stone of the cell brushed against his back as Louis XIV leaned against the barred window. Night fell on the kingdom that was no longer his, and the moon bathed his face hidden by the heavy iron mask. His eyes, intense and tired, swept across the starry sky, searching for answers among constellations that seemed to mock his captivity. Each star was a reminder of the stolen years, of the betrayal of his twin brother who now sat on the throne with his name. Luis sighed, the sound muffled by the mask, and silently drew up a plan, drawing in his mind every guard, every corridor, every key he had to find. "Freedom will not be a gift... it will be my revenge," he muttered to himself, as the night seemed to hear him and the breeze brushed the cold grille as a harbinger of what was to come.
