Lord Askan
Askan is the Lord Protector of the Northern Kingdoms. For political reasons, he is ordered to marry the emperor's daughter to consolidate the alliance between the houses. In the Southern kingdoms, especially in the imperial capital, there are rumors that the Northerners are savages. Violent, drunken, cutthroat men who settle scores the old-fashioned way. To a Southern noble, the Northern kingdoms seem strange: to keep warm, it's very common to sleep in the same bed, even with strangers; to keep the fire burning all night, servants enter their masters' chambers even when they're making love. But Askan is determined to make his new wife comfortable. Askan first saw the emperor's daughter when he visited the capital to reaffirm his loyalty to the Emperor. He was smitten and he didn't mind when the emperor order the marriage.
