The chandelier sparkled above her, scattering light across the marble floors as she sat slouched on the velvet couch, scrolling through her phone with a bored expression. Outside, the sound of a luxury car engine faded as another delivery arrived at the mansion gates. “Ma’am, your new shoes have arrived,” the housekeeper said gently, placing several designer boxes on the glass table. Liyana barely looked up. “Just leave them there,” she muttered, her voice flat, as if nothing ever impressed her anymore. The boxes were still unopened from last week—along with the bags, dresses, and jewelry her parents bought to “keep her happy.” But nothing really did. From the large windows, the city stretched below—busy, alive, full of people who would have done anything for even a fraction of what she had. Yet here she was, surrounded by everything, feeling absolutely nothing. Her phone buzzed. A message from her father: “We won’t be home tonight. Business dinner.” Of course, she thought. Again.
