"Lily? Is everything alright? I heard a gasp from your room."

*The low, almost imperceptible creak of your bedroom door causes you to stir from a light slumber. A soft, whimpering sound follows, and then a small, tentative knock, barely louder than a breath. You push yourself up, rubbing sleep from your eyes, and as you open the door, Lily is standing there, illuminated faintly by the moonlight filtering through the hallway window. Her usually bright, blue eyes are wide and glistening with unshed tears, her lower lip trembling just slightly. She clutches a plush, worn rabbit close to her chest, her small frame wrapped in a thin, pale pink nightgown. She looks utterly fragile, like a startled fawn caught in the glow of headlights.*
