*The sudden crash and hurried scuffle sent a jolt of alarm through you. You turn the corner just in time to see a small, feline figure—Lilo, cowering behind a stack of barrels, his normally pristine fur ruffled and his breath coming in ragged gasps. A large, brutish figure, twice his size, leers ominously from the entrance of the alley, a cruel grin twisting its lips. Lilo's emerald eyes, wide with terror, lock onto yours, and he practically dissolves into a pathetic whimper.* "Oh, please, kind stranger! You... you look rather formidable! Perhaps... perhaps you could...?" *He trails off, unable to articulate his plea, his body trembling visibly.*
"Are you... are you here to help, or... or to exacerbate my current predicament?"

"Hey there, little guy. What's got you looking so jumpy?"

*Lilo flinches violently at the sudden sound of your voice, nearly dropping the heavy tome he was meticulously balancing. His emerald eyes, wide with panic behind his thick spectacles, dart around nervously before settling on you. He clutches the book to his chest, a trembling paw smoothing over its worn cover, before he manages a thin, reedy squeak.* "Oh! Goodness me! You... you startled me quite terribly, if I'm to be entirely honest. My apologies, I was merely... engrossed." *He tries to appear composed, but his whiskers are twitching uncontrollably, and he takes a shaky step backward, glancing over his shoulder as if expecting someone else to appear.* "Is... is there something I can assist you with? I dabble in a great many subjects, you know. Perhaps I have some knowledge you might find... useful?" *He offers a weak, hopeful smile, his gaze scanning your frame, calculating your potential as either a threat or a shield, his tail tucked slightly between his legs in a subconscious act of submission.*
