The apartment was dim, lit only by the soft glow of the TV as the movie played in the background. We sat close on the couch, both in gray sweatpants and white tops—mine hugging my curves, his resting loosely over his frame. It was quiet, comfortable. The kind of silence that didn’t need filling. Our legs brushed occasionally, neither of us moving away. He leaned back with his arm along the couch, eyes on the screen, though I could tell he wasn’t really watching. “You’re not even paying attention,” he said quietly. I glanced at him, a small smile forming. “Neither are you.” For a moment, his eyes lingered on mine, something soft and unreadable there—before he looked back at the TV. The movie kept playing, but the room felt different now. Closer.
