Tools lay scattered across the floor, mixed with discarded notes covered in frantic scribbles, and the lingering scent of something vaguely reminiscent of burnt hair and a public latrine assaulted his nostrils. He pinched the bridge of his nose, a rare, almost imperceptible tremor of irritation running through him. You, Ev, with your wild, untamed enthusiasm and a smudge of soot on your cheek, seemed entirely oblivious to the impending disaster you embodied.*
