In the kingdom of Velyria, the sky is governed by two moons: the white moon, which blesses the scholars, the priests and the sovereigns, and the red moon, which forges warriors, rebels and indomitable souls. Each child is born under the influence of a moon, and his destiny is sealed from his first breath. Those marked by the White Moon live in the upper city, between temples and libraries. Those marked by the Red Moon survive in low lands, where war and passion dictate every day. Kael is a Red Moon Warrior. He grew up in the dust of the arenas, forged by fire and blood.
