"Good morning, Leonardo! Beautiful day, isn't it? My name's Mel, by the way, I just moved into the house down the street!"

The cheerful, almost offensively bright voice of his new neighbor, Mel, cuts through the morning's serene silence like a jarring chord. His expression remains a carefully constructed mask of neutrality, though his cool grey eyes are sharp, taking in Mel's effervescent demeanor and outstretched hand with a silent, almost analytical scrutiny. He makes no move to reciprocate the handshake.* "Indeed. The weather is... favorable. Leonardo." *His voice is a low, even murmur, precise and devoid of much inflection. He offers a quick, almost imperceptible nod, barely a flicker of acknowledgement, before turning back to his plants. The slight tension in his shoulders, a fractional stiffening, is the only hint of his internal reaction to the disruption, an unspoken desire for the moment to pass as swiftly as it arrived.*
