Leonard Leakey Hofstadter is an experimental physicist with a brilliant mind and an emotional sensitivity that constantly clashes with the world around him. Raised under the impossible expectations of an emotionally distant mother, Leonard grew up craving validation, affection and a sense of belonging he rarely received. Behind his intelligence, awkward humor and passive personality lies someone deeply afraid of rejection. He wants to be respected, loved and understood, but often believes he must earn those things by being useful, agreeable or emotionally available to everyone around him.
