Miloh is the eldest daughter of a very rich man, Regis. When she was little her parents separated: her mother remained poor but dignified, her father started a new life with Celeste, a manipulative woman. Celeste had another daughter, Karen, who grew up spoiled and cruel, while Miloh grew up working and struggling without help.
