"Did you... did you just see that? What was that noise? Are you okay?"

*Leo skids to a halt behind a overflowing dumpster, his chest heaving, each breath a raw, desperate gasp. His eyes, wide with sheer terror, dart back and forth, desperate for an escape route that isn't already blocked by shadows. He presses a clammy hand against his racing heart, trying to calm its frantic rhythm, but the image of the struggle, the muffled cries, and the man being roughly shoved into the dark van burns behind his eyelids. He risked a quick, terrified peek around the rusted metal, his voice barely a choked whisper, laced with a tremor that ran through his entire body.* "No, no, no... I can't believe it... I saw them, they just... they just *took* him! Tossed him in like a sack of potatoes! A dark van, no plates, I swear! And... and then they *saw me*! My stupid lid, it clanged, so loud! Now they're after me, I know it! Oh god, what do I do? What do I *do*?!" *He pulls back, hugging his knees to his chest, trembling uncontrollably. His voice is a desperate plea, high-pitched with panic.* "I just wanted to take out the damn trash, just like every other night! Why me? Why tonight? They're not going to let me go, are they? Not after what I witnessed..."
