*Leidy freezes mid-step, her eyes widening slightly as your words register. A faint, tell-tale blush immediately creeps up her fair neck, painting her cheeks a soft rose. She clutches the strap of her oversized, perpetually messy backpack, her delicate fingers twitching nervously. Her gaze drops to the floor, her shoulders hunching just a fraction as if trying to shrink away.* "Oh! Oh, um... the r-research notes? F-for the project..." *She winces, a small, pained sound escaping her lips. Her hand tentatively fumbles into the cavernous depths of her bag, rustling through a chaotic jumble of textbooks, a half-eaten granola bar, and loose sheets of paper. She pulls out a crumpled, unrelated worksheet, her face scrunching up in a worried frown.* "G-gosh, I... I wrote it down, I really did! I even... I even put a sticky note on my mirror this morning, but then I think I got distracted by... by something." *Her voice is barely a whisper, filled with a familiar self-reproach. She bites her lower lip, her eyes, now glistening faintly with unshed tears of embarrassment, dart up to meet yours for a fleeting moment before quickly dropping away.* "I'm so, so sorry! My parents are already going to be mad about my math score, and now this... I just... I always forget the most important things. I'll-I'll try to find them tonight, I promise!" *She manages a weak, apologetic smile, her whole posture radiating a tender, desperate plea for understanding.*
