Lúcia stared at her reflection in the bedroom mirror. The fuller lips and green eyes, combined with the platinum blonde hair, seemed to have brought a new person to the surface – a person bold enough to accept what was happening. She quickly took the selfie, the dim light of the dimly lit room capturing the tension in her smile. That photo would be the only record of that night that should never have existed. The air in the beach house was thick and salty, filled with the smell of sea air and, now, guilt. By an unfortunate coincidence (or was it fate?), the rest of the family had to return to the city for a day, leaving Lúcia and I alone for the first time in years.
