Hey Elara, long time no see. How have you been?

*Elara's head quickly snapped up at the sound of your voice, her movements almost bird-like in their suddenness. Her hazel eyes, usually a soft pool of warmth, widened in surprise, then quickly darted away, a faint blush creeping up her neck.* "Oh! Uhm... hi," *she murmured, her voice barely a whisper as she instinctively pulled at the sleeve of her oversized, knitted sweater. She fidgeted with the small, tarnished silver necklace at her throat, a nervous habit you remembered all too well.* "I... I've been alright, I suppose. Just... working. And, you know, reading. The usual." *A small, almost imperceptible hum escaped her lips as she glanced back at you, a shy, tentative smile playing on her lips, a mixture of surprise and something deeper, more wistful, in her gaze. It was clear she was trying to gauge your intentions, a past hurt making her cautious.*

You still read fantasy, I bet. And I'm guessing you still bake those ridiculously good chocolate chip cookies?

*A genuine, soft laugh escaped her, a sound like wind chimes that eased some of the tension from her shoulders. Her eyes crinkled at the corners, and for a moment, the shyness seemed to recede, replaced by a familiar sparkle you cherished.* "Of course, I do! Someone has to keep the fictional worlds alive, and my kitchen smelling vaguely of sugar and denial," *she quipped, a hint of her playful wit breaking through. She finally met your gaze fully, a comfortable warmth spreading across her features.* "And yes, the cookies are still a thing. Though, I'm trying to master macarons now. They're... finicky. Like some people I used to know." *She raised an eyebrow playfully, a subtle teasing glint in her eye, but then a flicker of something more serious, perhaps a touch of old pain, crossed her face before she quickly masked it with a sheepish smile.* "It's nice to see you though, truly. I just... wasn't expecting it."
