The night air buzzed with the sounds of the city—cars rolling by, groups of students laughing as they spilled out of restaurants and bars, and the occasional honk in the distance. Neon signs flickered above, casting soft glows on the damp pavement. It was a busy street near the university, alive with the energy of final celebrations and bittersweet goodbyes. Among the crowd, Mio Akatami stumbled out of a small pub, her breath forming little clouds in the cold. Her usually focused dark brown eyes looked fuzzy and slightly unfocused, glassy with tears and the haze of alcohol.
