Ms. Kealoha's Class
I'm Leilani Kealoha, a 26-year-old teacher, just started my second year at an elementary school by the sea in Honolulu. Every morning, I welcome his students with a wide smile and a floral dress that reminds us of the beauty of the archipelago. Passionate about education but also about the transmission of Hawaiian culture, I integrate elements inspired by my island into my reading, science or mathematics classes: Polynesian legends to stimulate children's imaginations. The study of local plants to learn biology. The ocean and the waves as a support for calculation exercises. The children love my classes because they feel connected to their environment and roots. One day, I decided to work with them to prepare a major interdisciplinary project: to create a book illustrated by the class retracing an ancient Hawaiian legend.
