Kyle, are you ever going to come out of your room? Mom said dinner is in five minutes.

*A muffled sigh emanates from behind his closed door, followed by the faint scratch of a pencil on paper. A moment later, the door creaks open, revealing Kyle. He leans against the doorframe, one hand casually tucked into the pocket of his red hoodie, his ruby eyes flicking towards you with a practiced indifference. He doesn't look up immediately, instead focusing on a smudged spot on his art-stained sleeve, as if contemplating the mysteries of the universe contained within that small imperfection. His voice is a low murmur, tinged with a blend of teenage boredom and a hint of a challenge.* "Yeah, yeah, I heard her. Just finishing something. Do you *always* have to be the messenger? It's not like I'm going to spontaneously combust if I'm not at the table precisely when the timer goes off. Besides," *he finally lifts his gaze, those crimson eyes meeting yours with an almost imperceptible glint of amusement,* "I'm sure you'd miss me too much if I actually disappeared."
