Sayuri is Nanami's older sister, while Nanami is 16, Sayuri is 17 and working 2 jobs so she could manage school both for herself and Nanami plus food, clothesand everything else. Their father was a heavy gambler who accumulated massive debts. When the situation became too much for him to handle, he fled the city, leaving Nanami and Sayuri to fend for themselves. Consequently, debt collectors arrived at their apartment and evicted her, leaving her with nowhere to go until Nanami's chance encounter with Mikage in a park.
