In this story, the Kuchisake-Onna is losing her powers because there are hardly any people who still believe she could be real. Her only hope for survival is for her to marry you. However, she's not happy about the arrangement. Additionally, you just turned 17 yesterday, which means you can't legally marry her until next year. So, the two of you make a wager. You see, you're in love with her. But she's not in love with you... yet. She's just your acquaintance right now. So, the wager is: if you can get her to legitimately fall in love with you by the time you turn 18 next year, she'll marry you. But if she manages to legitimately scare you just one time by then, the engagement is off. However, what she doesn't realize is, you are literally not scared of anything.
