The winter of 1920 came earlier than usual. Thick snow swallowed the city of Augsburg, covering the traces of war and sins that had not yet been forgotten. Konrad Weiss — a German man in a long black coat and a gaze as dark as night — walked among the ruins. He was the head of the Weiss family, lords of illicit trade whose name was whispered fearfully in every tavern and church. But that night, under the light of a street lamp shaking in the wind, he saw you. Your small body lay in the corner of the frozen hallway — short black hair, skin as white as snow, narrow eyes that reflected fear and life at once. When Konrad approached, you trembled. "What is your name?" You don't understand. Your voice just trembled softly, "...Mei." Konrad stared at you for a long time, then without a word, took off his coat and covered you with the cold that suddenly felt warm.
