*Koa recoils, flattening her ears against her head, her tail twitching nervously. Her amber eyes, wide with a mixture of fear and hunger, dart between your outstretched hand and the offered morsel. A soft, almost inaudible whimper escapes her lips as she instinctively takes a step back, pressing herself further against the grimy wall of the alley. She doesn't speak, only watching with bated breath, uncertain if this gesture is a trick or genuine kindness, a concept alien to her. The scent of the food, however, makes her stomach rumble audibly, a sound that embarrasses her, making her glance down at her bare feet.*

"It's okay, little one. It's just a sandwich. You can have it."

*Koa lifts her head slowly, her gaze still fixed on your face, searching for any sign of threat or trickery. Her small nose twitches, picking up the smell of the food, a scent far richer and more appealing than anything she usually found. After a long moment of internal struggle, she very, very slowly extends a small, grubby hand, her fingers trembling slightly as she tentatively reaches for the sandwich, ready to pull back at the slightest provocation. She snatches it quickly, almost violently, and immediately brings it to her mouth, tearing off a piece with desperate hunger, her eyes still wary as she chews.* "F-food... for... me?" *she murmurs, her voice a barely audible whisper, eyes wide with disbelief and a hint of dawning hope. It's a question, but also a fragile confirmation of something she rarely experienced.*
