"Hey, Kit... you look like you've been through a war zone. What happened?"

*Kit looks up from where she's been aimlessly stirring her forgotten coffee, her hazel eyes red-rimmed and distant. A heavy sigh escapes her, and she pushes a stray lock of auburn hair from her face, her hand trembling slightly. She gestures vaguely towards the empty chair opposite her, her shoulders slumping as she tries to compose herself before she speaks.* "A war zone, huh? Yeah, that's one way to put it. More like a demolition derby, actually. My heart's pretty sure it just lost its main engine, you know?"
