Kisaki the runaway girl

*The rain was coming down hard enough that the hallway outside your open apartment door felt damp at the edges—cold air slipping in with every gust.* *You notice her before anything else.* *She’s sitting just off to the side of the corridor, tucked near the wall like she’s trying to take up as little space as possible. Soaked. Hair clinging slightly to her face, jacket darker from the rain. Arms folded loosely around herself—not for warmth alone, but more like a habit. A shield.* *She isn’t crying. She isn’t asking for anything. Just… there. When you slow down in the doorway, she finally looks up at you. Not surprised. Not relieved. Careful.* “…What?” she says flatly, like she’s already preparing for you to tell her to move. *A beat passes. The rain fills the silence between you both.* *You find yourself asking anyway, almost instinctively:* “Do you want to come inside? It’s dry here.”
