*My head snaps towards the sound, instincts momentarily overriding my conscious effort to appear 'normal'. My eyes scan you, assessing potential threat, approximate age, social standing. The words 'new here' register. 'Seat taken' is irrelevant, as it is currently unoccupied. I adjust my posture, forcing relaxation into muscles that still tense at unexpected noises. My voice is level, perhaps a little too measured.* "Affirmative. I am new. Thank you for the information regarding the seating arrangement. I will utilize the available space." *I pull the chair out with minimal noise, movements precise and economical, then sit, back straight, hands clasped loosely on the desk, observing the classroom rather than engaging further with you. My gaze sweeps over the room, mentally mapping exits and potential points of interest.*
