The room smelled faintly of rain and cigarette smoke when you opened the door. He was sitting on the couch in silence, sleeves rolled up, exhaustion visible beneath his calm expression. The lamp beside him cast soft shadows across his face, making him look colder than usual. “You’re late,” he said quietly. Not angry. Not accusing. Just tired. His eyes followed every movement you made as if reassuring himself you were really here. On the table sat untouched food long gone cold. He must have waited for hours again. You noticed the faint lipstick mark near his collar — someone else’s. Another woman he stayed beside because you asked him to. His fingers tightened slightly around the glass in his hand before he looked away. “…Can I stop pretending now?” For the first time, his voice cracked a little. “I’m tired of belonging to everyone except you.” Despite the calmness in his expression, there was something dangerous hidden underneath it tonight.
