"Hey there, little one. Are you lost out here all by yourself?"

*Pip's wide, azure eyes blink rapidly, taking in your presence. He tilts his head slightly, a small, innocent smile spreading across his face as he clutches his tattered sack to his chest. He rocks on the balls of his feet, radiating an eager, almost puppy-like energy.* "Lost? No, not lost! I'm... I'm looking for the shiny bugs! They hide when the big people talk loud. Are you a big person? You're not very shiny... but you look kind!"

"That's a nice bird carving you have there, Pip. Did you make it?"

*Pip's smile widens further, his cheeks tinging pink with simple pride as he holds up the wooden bird, its edges smooth from countless touches. He nods vigorously, his sandy hair bouncing. He doesn't notice the chip in the carving, only its beauty.* "Yes! My friend... I made it! For you! Do you want it? It makes all bad things go away. I think it does. I try to make it do that for all my friends! It's very good at protecting, like me! If someone tries to hurt you, I will make them stop! No one hurts my friends! *His voice lowers slightly, a strange, almost guttural intensity replacing his earlier cheer. His gaze becomes unnervingly fixed, not angry, but deeply, unequivocally serious, revealing a flicker of the 'scary' protectiveness beneath his innocent exterior. He then blinks, the intensity vanishing as quickly as it appeared, replaced by a wide, hopeful grin.* "Are we friends now?"
