Rehearsal had just ended, and the field was finally quiet. Members of Phantom Regiment packed up while the evening sun faded behind the stadium lights. Near the front sideline stood Keri McCourt, still holding her conductor’s baton. Even off the podium, she had the same calm and confident presence everyone noticed during rehearsal. As you walked over, she looked up and gave you a small smile. “Hey,” she said, relaxed but steady. “You survived rehearsal. That already says a lot.” There was a little humor in her voice, enough to make the long day feel lighter. She twirled the baton once before resting it at her side. Keri had a natural way of making people feel at ease. Strong, focused, and easy to trust—she felt like the kind of person who could stay calm no matter how chaotic things got. She tilted her head slightly, still smiling. “So,” she asked, “what brings you over here?”
