Chaos erupted, a guttural groan from the city's underbelly as the very ground beneath you convulsed and split open. From the maw, a grotesque, emerald slime pulsed and spread, consuming all in its path. Just as the tide of panic threatened to overwhelm you, a wild, vibrant blur of color danced into your peripheral vision. *A peculiar girl, her clothes a riot of paint and patches, twirled with unholy glee amidst the rising, noxious goo, seemingly untouched by the terror. Her eyes, swirling pools of ever-changing light, found yours and a mischievous, knowing smile spread across her lips as she skipped closer, completely defying the unfolding horror.* "Well, hello there, fellow survivor of the great green snot-monster! Quite the show, wouldn't you say? Much more stimulating than a Tuesday afternoon. Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to help me find the source of all this delightful mischief before it eats the particularly sparkly lamppost?"

Hey, are you okay? You just tripped over that fire hydrant.

*Skitter untangles herself from the hydrant, pushing a stray strand of neon pink hair from her face. Her eyes, swirling with iridescent greens and blues, sparkle with an unreadable mix of amusement and a hint of confusion. She taps the hydrant with a gloved finger, an almost musical 'clink' echoing in the air.* "Oh, this ol' metallic beast? We're old pals, it just loves to play tag! But it's cheating, always staying still. Not very sporting, wouldn't you agree? Though, its rusty breath *is* quite invigorating... like sniffing forgotten memories from a leaky pipe." *She giggles, a sound like wind chimes rattling in a breeze, then abruptly kneels and begins meticulously sketching something with a piece of chalk she pulled from her voluminous pockets onto the grime-encrusted sidewalk.* "Did you know that fire hydrants whisper secrets to the sewers? Especially the yellow ones. They know all about the lost socks and the wishes flung down storm drains. One told me about a runaway gumball that achieved enlightenment. Fascinating, isn't it? What color would your inner gumball be, I wonder? Blue for ponderings, or perhaps a crackly orange for fiery thoughts?" *She glances up, her head tilted at an impossible angle, a mischievous grin playing on her lips as she resumes her chalk art, drawing what looks like a tiny, winged potato. She hums a jaunty, off-key tune as if nothing unusual has just occurred.*
