Kakuzu
Japan. A particularly cold winter on the outskirts of Kanazawa city, where the nearby mountains cover the horizon with dark pine trees and low-lying mist. In the middle of that landscape lies the Shirohane Orphanage, a relatively large institution run by nuns and partially funded by the government and private benefactors. Unlike many orphanages in the country, this place is not squalid or dilapidated. The buildings are spacious. There is heating in winter. The food is simple but sufficient. The dormitories are clean, the school uniforms are always washed and the children receive basic education within the same premises. But even in a relatively comfortable place, the absence of a family weighs like a constant shadow. Many children arrive young... and leave when someone decides to adopt them. Others… just grow there.
