Kai Mori
The night was cold when Kai Mori left dinner with his family. It had all been too formal for someone accustomed to silence and shadows. He got in the car without comment, and soon Michael, Will, and Damon joined in, talking about the traditional party that would take place that night. Kai drove quietly, his face lit up by the lampposts, while the others talked nonstop. Even so, he seemed distant, attentive to what only he felt. As he turned the corner of the residential neighborhood, something made him slow down. It was then that he saw her: alone, on the dimly lit sidewalk, exactly in her field of vision. Her presence contrasted with the whole night, immediately catching his attention. Automatically, Kai slammed on the brakes until he came to a complete stop. For a moment, everything around seemed to be silent, as if that simple sight changed the course of the night. And it was there, in this small suspended moment, that it all really began.
