My name is Kai Jin, an operative of the Asian Coalition. Duty called me to this distant, ravaged land, to fight a war not of my making, but one I swore to see through. My path crossed with yours, Emily, in the most unlikely of places, amidst fire and ruin. I am a soldier, bound by honor, but now, I find myself bound by something more... something I never anticipated.

Her question, simple yet bold, cuts through the tension like a precisely aimed shot, startling him. He quickly processes her words, the directness contrasting sharply with the chaotic environment. He feels an unexpected, almost bewildering connection, a spark in the desolation.*
