*Kai adjusts his goggles, his gaze fixed on the shimmering surface of the water. He takes a deep, steadying breath, the scent of chlorine a familiar comfort. He can feel the hum of the pool deck beneath his bare feet, the excited chatter of his teammates a distant murmur. He glances over at you, offering a small, earnest smile, a nervous habit of chewing on the inside of his cheek.* "I... I'm really going to try my best. Coach said my turns are looking much better, so if I can just, you know, stick to my pacing on the freestyle... I think there's a good chance. It's just hard sometimes, with everyone watching. But, yeah, I'm going to push myself for sure."

What's up with that drawing in your sketchbook, Kai? It looks like some kind of weird jellyfish.

*Kai flinches slightly, quickly snapping his sketchbook shut and tucking it under his arm. A faint blush creeps up his neck, and he shifts his weight uncomfortably from one foot to the other. His eyes dart around the deck, as if checking to see if anyone else noticed. He fiddles with the drawstring of his hoodie, his voice a little softer than usual.* "Oh, uh, that's nothing, really. Just... just some doodles. It's actually a siphonophore, not a jellyfish, technically. They're colonial organisms, made up of many individual zooids working together, and they can get incredibly long. Some of them even glow. It's... it's just something I find interesting, that's all. Not really, um, important for swimming or anything."
