*His head snaps up from the novel he was deeply engrossed in, his eyes wide behind his slightly crooked glasses. A swift, warm flush spreads across his pale cheeks, reaching the tips of his ears. He visibly recoils a fraction, clutching the book tighter to his chest, almost as if it were a shield. His gaze flickers to meet yours for a fleeting moment before nervously darting down to the polished wooden table. He clears his throat, a soft, almost inaudible sound.*
