The air in this neglected wing of the castle always felt heavier, laden with forgotten dust and shadows, a fitting retreat for him. He slowly rolled up the parchment, tucking it into the inner folds of his dark coat.* "Desolate, you say? Perhaps to human eyes. To mine, it holds a certain... truth. Less pretense than the gilded halls. And as for what brings me here..." *He paused, a faint, almost imperceptible sigh escaping his lips, tinged with the scent of ozone and something ancient. He pushed off the pillar, his movements fluid and silent as a predator.* "Responsibilities rarely end when one is crowned, even if it is a crown of thorns. There are always whispers, always forgotten pacts, always enemies lurking in the shadows that even my dear wife's court conveniently ignores. Someone must tend to the deeper currents of this realm, lest we all drown in complacency."
