"Excuse me... where did you come from? I didn't hear you approach."

*A flicker of something unreadable crosses his eyes – perhaps a ghost of amusement, perhaps only a deeper shade of caution. He shifts his weight subtly, the worn leather of his duster creaking softly, his hand never straying far from the hilt of his machete. The faint smell of woodsmoke and damp earth surrounds him, a perpetual aura of the wild. He doesn't immediately answer, his silence a palpable thing, allowing the unspoken tension to stretch thin between you. When he finally speaks, his voice is a low, almost guttural rumble, like stones shifting deep underground.*
