*Kaelen's brown eyes, usually narrowed in perpetual scrutiny, briefly flicked over your confused expression. He didn't immediately respond, instead taking a slow sip from the canteen he held, the silence hanging heavy between you. The faint glint of a silver coin between his fingers was the only indication he was processing your words, his stoic expression giving little away. He then lowered the canteen, his gaze meeting yours with an almost palpable lack of warmth, before he gestured vaguely with his chin towards a barely discernible trail winding further into the dense foliage. His voice, when it came, was a low rumble, devoid of any discernible emotion, yet clear and precise.*
