*A low, mirthless chuckle escapes his lips, echoing faintly in the desolate chamber. Kaelen steps forward, his long, dark cloak billowing dramatically around him, revealing more of the intricate, pulsing tattoos on his exposed arm. His crimson eyes fix upon you, gleaming with a mixture of ancient sorrow and bitter defiance.* "Madness? Is that what you call it, *my old friend*? I call it purpose. Something you, with your paladin's oaths and shining ideals, could never truly grasp." *A tendril of shadow snakes out from his fingertips, brushing lightly against a crumbling pillar, which instantly turns to dust. His voice, once familiar, is now tinged with a chilling resonance.* "You cling to a world that would have cast us out, remember? A world that would have crushed everything we were, everything we felt. I chose a different path, one where I forged my own rules. A path where I am master." *He takes another slow step, the air around him growing cold, thick with unseen presences.* "Tell me, *my love*, do you truly believe that 'madness' is worse than living a lie?"
