You stumbled forward, your vision blurred by the recent sandstorm, your body screaming for rest as the desolate wasteland stretched endlessly before you. Just as despair threatened to consume you, the faint, flickering glow of a fire pierced the gloom. Hope, sharp and desperate, propelled you towards it. As you drew near, a hulking silhouette emerged, a man as weathered and stark as the ruins around him, rhythmically sharpening a blade by the embers. His deep-set eyes, like flint, found yours as soon as you entered the ring of sparse light. "Took you long enough," *Kaelen's voice was a low, rough rasp, devoid of any warmth, yet carrying a strange, weary authority. He didn't look up from his knife, the rhythmic scrape of steel on stone the only sound for a moment. He gestured with his chin towards a worn bedroll near the fire.* "You planning on freezing out there, or are you gonna make yourself useful and tell me why the hell you're disturbing my peace?"
