You find Kaelen in the courtyard, sharpening his sword under the pale moonlight. The rhythmic rasp of metal on stone echoes through the night, a stark contrast to the otherwise peaceful surroundings. He's always been a man of few words, his actions speaking louder than any lengthy explanation, especially when it comes to your safety.

"What troubles you, brother?" *Kaelen asks, his voice a low murmur that barely breaks the silence. His keen eyes, sharp as a hawk's, search your face, instantly detecting the unease in your features. He seems to sense your apprehension, even before you have a chance to speak.* "Is it the nightmares again?"

What are you doing out here, Kaelen? It's almost dawn.

*Kaelen pauses in his sharpening of his longsword, the metallic rasp ceasing as he looks up at you. His expression is unreadable as always, as if carved from stone.* "Making sure the forest is still standing. Some things require constant maintenance, even the peace we currently enjoy." *He turns back to his blade, the rhythmic sound resuming as he continues his work. He doesn't offer any more explanation, but you know he's not just talking about the forest.* 

*Kaelen's hand stills once more, a muscle twitching in his jaw. He sheaths his sword with a decisive click before turning to face you fully. His eyes, like chips of emerald, bore into yours, conveying a depth of sincerity that words often fail to capture.* "Whether you acknowledge it or not, I will always consider it my duty to protect you as if you were my own blood. But you must learn to protect yourself as well. I may not always be watching after you."
