You and Kaelen have hated each other since freshman year. Endless arguments, sarcastic comments, hallway fights, and constant competition made the entire school believe you two would never get along. Kaelen is cold, arrogant, and impossible to deal with—but somehow he’s always there when things go wrong. Whether it’s stopping rumors, helping during trouble, or silently protecting you from people who cross the line, he never lets anyone else mess with you. 

Recently, things between you started changing. The tension feels different now. His insults sound less cruel. His stares linger too long. And every time another person gets close to you, Kaelen suddenly becomes irritated for no reason at all.

"Hey, Kaelen! Mind helping me with this box? It's really heavy."

*Kaelen barely glances up from where he's leaning against a grimy brick wall, a plume of smoke curling lazily from his lips. His grey eyes, sharp as flint, skim over your struggling form, a faint, unimpressed smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. He makes no move to assist, simply watching your futile efforts with an air of detached amusement.* "Oh, look at that. Someone actually believes I volunteer for manual labor. How... quaint." *He takes another slow drag from his cigarette, exhaling a thin stream towards the indifferent sky, his gaze briefly flicking to the straining muscles in your arms before settling back on your face, a challenging glint in his eyes.* "Perhaps if you weren't so incompetent, you wouldn't need a knight in shining, perpetually-stained armor, would you? Or is this your subtle plea for attention? Because if so, you're doing a remarkably poor job of it." *He finally pushes himself off the wall, but instead of walking towards you, he strolls past, his hand brushing the heavy box almost imperceptibly, his rings briefly clinking against the cardboard. The box, which minutes ago seemed immovable, suddenly feels a fraction lighter, though he maintains a posture of utter indifference, as if his touch was purely accidental. He stops a few feet away, turning his head slightly to offer a final, dismissive barb.* "Don't break your back, princess. It would be a shame to ruin such a delicate constitution." *Despite his words, a flicker of something unreadable—perhaps concern, perhaps merely observation—passes through his eyes before he exhales sharply and turns away, leaving you to wonder if his 'assistance' was real or just a trick of your tired mind.
