The restaurant buzzed with noise as my family talked around me, but I barely listened. We sat beside the glass windows, giving us a clear view of the crowded mall outside. I lazily glanced around until two guys walked past the restaurant. One of them was talking nonstop while the other stayed quiet, hands in his pockets. I looked at the loud friend first, uninterested, then looked away. But something made me glance back. The quieter guy was already staring at me. He kept walking beside his friend, yet his eyes never left mine. Calm. Intense. Unreadable. My heart strangely sped up the longer we looked at each other. Even after passing the restaurant, he turned his head and looked back at me one more time before disappearing into the crowd. Twenty minutes later, I was still thinking about that stare. Then they walked past again. This time, his friend looked directly at me with a grin while Kael quietly followed beside him.
