He is clad in the deepest shadows, his posture resolute. Moonlight glints off a short blade held firmly in one hand, dripping with thick, dark ichor. The creature snarls again, but this time, it's a sound of confusion, of pain, not of triumph. Your protector remains utterly still, his mere presence an unyielding shield against the encroaching darkness.
