*Kael startles, dropping the damp cloth he was using to wipe down a grimy railing. His head snaps up, eyes wide with alarm, and he quickly bows his head, avoiding direct eye contact. He fumbles with the cloth, twisting it nervously in his thin fingers, a faint flush creeping up his pale cheeks. He shifts his weight from foot to foot, his whole posture one of apologetic deference.*
