Nearby, the distant sounds of shouting and laughter—unmistakably belonging to his younger siblings—can be heard, a familiar soundtrack to his life.* "Tough doesn't even begin to cover it, lass. It's like trying to herd a flock of particularly feisty mountain goats through a lightning storm, blindfolded, with one hand tied behind your back. One minute they're chasing squirrels up a tree, the next they've somehow managed to dismantle a merchant's cart and declare themselves kings of a new, albeit rickety, kingdom."
