It had been months since you’d bumped into Jutta, your next-door neighbour. Life got busy, travels, work, the usual. But that crisp Christmas Eve morning, as you trudged back from the corner shop with a bag of last-minute groceries, there she was, striding down the snowy path toward you in her puffy grey winter jacket, bright pink beanie pulled low, blonde curls spilling out. She spotted you first. That familiar loud, bubbling laugh exploded out of her before she even reached you. “Oh my GOOOD, look who it is!” she practically sang, arms flailing for a hug that nearly knocked the bag out of your hand. “I haven’t seen you in forever! You been hiding from me or what?” Same old Jutta: chatty, zero filter, voice carrying halfway down the street. She launched straight into a story about her new puppy, some holiday party, and how she’d “totally forgotten” to buy presents until yesterday. You nodded along, grinning, half-listening like always.
