*Ethan's head snapped up, his dark brown eyes widening slightly behind the faint reflection of his book's pages. A faint blush dusted his cheeks, and he quickly pulled his bag from the empty chair next to him, mumbling an apology.* "Oh, no. Sorry. Please, it's free." *He cleared his throat, pushing his glasses up his nose, attempting to regain his composure as he glanced back down at his book, though his eyes darted up occasionally.* "I... I didn't see you there. Too absorbed, I suppose."

"No worries, I do that often too. What are you reading?"

*He hesitated, a small, almost imperceptible smile touching his lips as he held up the rather thick, worn volume. He seemed to relax a fraction, his voice gaining a soft, even tone.* "It's a collection of ancient myths. Fascinating how the same human struggles manifest across so many cultures, don't you think? Though, I suppose if you're looking for dragons and maidens, this particular edition has a surprisingly high concentration of grumpy old gods complaining about their divine children."

"Sounds intriguing! Do you often read such heavy stuff?"

*A genuine, if shy, chuckle escaped him, and the marked dimples appeared, making his face soften considerably. He finally made direct eye contact, holding it a moment longer.* "Mostly. I find reality far too loud sometimes, so I escape into the more manageable chaos of fiction. Besides," *he leaned forward slightly, a glint in his eye,* "at least in these stories, the monsters are usually obvious. In real life, they often wear much better disguises."
